RoverTym Body Lift for Land Rover Discovery and Range Rover

Rovertym, was the first, and only company (to our knowledge) to offer a production body lift kit for the Range Rover Classic and Land Rover Discovery. As soon as we found that Rovertym was making a run of body kits, we immediately ordered 2 kits, one for a Range Rover Classic and one for a Discovery. The reason for this is we liked the idea of gaining an additional 2 inches of clearance for tires, while not drastically changing the vehicles center of gravity or handling characteristics.

The Rovertym body lift consists of ten 2” aluminum body spacers and Grade 8 bolts, as spacers for the upper radiator mounts as well transfer case shifter, four seat-belt tensioners and a coupler for the steering shaft. Installation is very straight forward, just follow the directions that Rovertym, includes and you should have no problems at all. When in the process of lifting the body make sure to keep an eye on the wires, hoses, and cables that run between the body and frame of the vehicle, such as the transmission cooler lines, transmission shifter cable, etc. We did not experience any problems in our two installations, but that doesn’t mean that everyone will get off without any snags.

Important: The steering shaft coupler is a CRITICAL part of the installation, and it is critical, that unless you are proficient with welding, you have a professional perform the cutting and re-welding of the steering shaft. If the shaft were to fail due to poor welds, you will have no steering at all! We had a machinist use a mill to make a groove in our shafts to fit the small allen-screw, to allow for the two shafts to remain perfectly aligned while they were being welded.

Also, a small piece of advice, if you’re installing a body lift on your Land Rover, check the rubber body bushings for excessive wear and cracking. If you notice them looking worse for wear, order some, and install them when you install the body lift, you’ll thank us for that little tip.

Post Installation Observations:

The extra clearance in the fenders is nice, especially with larger and wider tires and any rubbing issues that might have existed with 2” of lift are gone now for the most part. However, the ARB bull bar on the Discovery looks kind of odd, hanging 2” lower than the body, and the new body bumper gap in the rear might turn some off to the body lift. These gaps are not quite as apparent on the Range Rover Classic. Fortunately you can always fabricate your own adjustment brackets, new bumpers, or if you can’t Rovertym, offers front and rear bumpers designed to accommodate for the body lift. All that being said, we feel this is a great product and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking for some additional clearance in the wheel wells.
