Land Rover Discovery Rear Turn Signal Modification (1994-1995)

In preparation for a new rear bumper, it occurred to us that the Discovery would need new turn signals for the rear of the vehicle, since the existing lights in the rear bumper would be done away with. This left a couple options: We could put turn signals in the new rear bumper and use the existing wiring, or we could find away to move the turn signals to the body of the vehicle as is on the 1996-1999 Series I Discoveries.

To keep a cleaner look, and to not have the hassle of rear lights that might be broken on difficult trails it was decided to move the turn signals to the body. To do this we obtained a pair of the body mounted rear light cluster from a 1997 Discovery, the plan being to rewire the bumper turn signals to now work on the body.
After removing the original rear light cluster and comparing it with the newer cluster, we realized they looked nearly identical, most noticeably the wiring plugs which contained the same number of pins. So as an experiment we plugged the existing plug into the new light cluster, just to see what would happen, and to our suprise(we are talking about Lucas electronics here), the rear turn signal on the new cluster worked, with no fast blinking to boot, meaning that there was already wiring in place for the body mounted turn signals on the 1994 -1995 Discoveries.

Upon further examination it appears as though the original light cluster has the necessary contacts in place for a turn signal, but the socket for the bulb was never untilized or punched all the way through for the bulb to fit. If one were to remove the excess material and fit a bulb socket it very well might work.... in theory.
