Land Rover Discovery Truggy This Discovery Truggy is the end result of ongoing evolution over the last 5 years. At one point it was just a mild off-roader with 237/75 (32") BFGoodrich Mud Terrains and a 2" Old Man Emu suspension lift.
Over the last few years, however, the desire to take on more difficult terrain, more lift and larger tires were needed. To meet this need, a 2" RoverTym body lift was added along with 34"x12.5" Interco Super Swamper LTB's.
This sufficed for a while, but as any off-road rig goes, the desire to take onmore difficut terrain leads to further and more extreme modification. Longer travel suspension and larger tires were desired and so modified radius arms and front dual shock towers were fabricated, as well as extended rear trailing links, spring retainers, and long-travel shocks. Using custom adjustable spring spacers and RoverTym springs it was lifted 6" to fit 37"x12.5" Gooyear MT/R's. A partial exo-cage was also added for protection from trees and limbs.
After some time, and several problems with the land rover axles, CV's and ring gears, it was time to go to a stronger set of axles. To fix the axle-breakage problem, a set of Dana 60 axles from a 1-ton Dodge truck were aquired, and a custom suspension setup was fabricated to allow them to be used on the Discovery.
A set of custom heavy duty Tom Wood's double carden driveshafts were made with 1350 U-joints and a set of adapter plates to mate the 1350 CV's to the LT230's outputs. A front and rear 3-link suspension linkage was built, using dual 16" travel Fox Airshocks to spring the front and 5" RoverTym springs with spaces and 14" travel shocks for 8" of suspension lift. A set of 40"x13.5" Goodyear MT/R's were used, mounted on a set of 17" H2 allow wheels. With the added lift, the Discovery seemed to top-heavy in off-camber situations, and the added desire to take on the most difficult trails at Tellico, the Discovery was chopped and tubed.
