RoverUnited Project:
Land Rover Discovery BFGoodrich Mud Terrains

Update: 1-27-03

We have now been running the BFGoodrich Mud Terrains now for over 2.5 years and 35k miles. These tires have held up very well under off-road use resisting chunking on jagged rocks, all while maintaining their excellent road characteristics. The tread of these tires has worn amazingly well, and there is still usable tread on the tires. Over the course of these past 2 years, we have recieved many comments from people who purchased the BFG MT's after reading our article, or talking to us, who have been very pleased with their experiences with the BFG Mud Terrains. One thing that cannot be emphasized enough, however, is when running larger that stock tires, especially those with an offroad bias, is to follow the air-pressure ratings on the tire, not what is suggested by the vehicle manufacturer.

BFGoodrich has long been known for producing high quality, versatile tires forracing, commuting and everything in between. The BFGoodrich Mud Terrains carry on this tradition by offering superior off-road performance while still remaining very streetable.

BFGoodrich's Mud Terrains feature interlocking tread elements that stabilize the tread center. The performanceis further enhanced with its TriGuard construction that is designed to increase handling and improve resistance to bruising and punctures. The MT's design also features two full width steel belts that help the tire to mold itself around obstacles.

The performance of these tires off road is excellent, and it is especially noticeable when they replace the stock tires off the Discovery. The open, self-cleaning design of the MT's helps to prevent clogging and increases traction in even the muddiest conditions.

On the road, these tires perform very well and are relatively quiet, especially considering their aggressive tread design. These tires corner well, and we haven't felt any noticeable wandering, even at higher speeds. The MT's hold their grip in wet road conditions. In our experience, these tires have never felt as though they might loose traction, even under heavy braking. We actually had to put this to the test when on a particularly wet day, the ground was so saturated that a tree fell on the car in front of us!

So far, we have been very impressed with these tires and their performance both on and off the road, and we will continue to add updates on these tires.
